External proctors can be used by a student who:
Resides outside of Ames or have paper-based exams AND is in a course registered with the Testing Center for off-campus proctoring AND has approval from their instructor.
External proctors monitor students while they take exams to ensure the student is following the rules of the exam. Proctors enter the exam password so the student can access the exam (in the case of Canvas-based exams). They are unbiased individuals who have no personal association or affiliation with the student(s) they proctor. Off-campus proctors cannot be ISU students unless those students are a TA for your course. In those circumstances, you should work through your instructor/TA and do not need to use the Testing Center’s process.
Students are responsible for locating their own proctors. The Testing Center does not assign proctors nor do we use any virtual proctoring software.
